The job opening for the Early Ligh Media Director of Photography position requires a person who thrives in fluid situations, excels at juggling multiple projects and above all, considers the team above all else.

Experience with commercial and documentary filming techniques & lighting is critical. The position is primarily a Director of Photography position however some editing may also be required.

Cinematography – Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

*Please note that a strong driving record and valid drivers license is essential

– Collaborate with creative directors to fulfill the production plan, execute the vision, and advance the story.

– Lighting, lighting, lighting. It’s the most important part of photography. Must have a strong understanding of lighting in various scenarios.
– Film dynamic video content for various projects and clients making thoughtful filming choices that are pleasing to the eye and advance the story
– Maintain camera, lighting, and audio equipment, oversee maintenance, and keep tidy
– Prepare equipment for shoots and properly store equipment after shoots
– Responsible for equipment when traveling domestically and abroad
– Producing shoots from time to time.
– Communicating independently with clients from time to time using professionalism and courtesy.
– Attend production meetings to discuss the script or concept, make any suggestions to help the production run smoothly, and offer feedback that advances the story.
– Location scouting as needed to determine the locations suitable for filming.
– General knowledge of camera equipment and audio gathering tools.
– Maintain the photographic quality and continuity of the production.
– Compiling and organizing large audio and video files.
– Determine the specific audio and visual effects necessary to push the story.
– Study scripts to become familiar with production concepts and requirements.
– Travel to and from shoots (may require driving) both domestic and internationally.
– Promote positive brand identity and awareness

Editing – Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

*This role is secondary to cinematography

– Expertise in software applications specific to editing, including but not limited to the Adobe Suite.
– Portfolio/demo reel demonstrating a variety of styles and technical capabilities.
– Adaptability, and receptiveness to feedback and direction.
– Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize work.
– Capable of executing a project from start to finish.
– Follow scripts or work independently to edit videos for various projects
– Maintain the photographic quality and continuity of the production.
– Collaborate with the Director and DOP (if it’s not you) to establish the intended creative vision.
– Understanding of visual storytelling including the use of pace, color and sound.
– Attention to detail, problem solving skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
– Promote positive brand identity and awareness

Education and Experience

– Must have a firm grasp of the principles of effective storytelling
– Qualification in editing and photography/videography or equivalent with 3-5 yrs experience
– Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of video production
– Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of video post production
– knowledge of production techniques and tools
– Direct work experience in film/TV/online video production & editing
– Proven track record of excelling in fast-paced, dynamic environments
– Proven experience working in teams
