Early Light Media (ELM), an award-winning video production company based in Maryland, Baltimore, & DC, has an immediate job opening for a producer and is looking for an experienced, team-oriented, and talented leader to join.

The job opening for the Early Ligh Media producer position requires a person who thrives creatively in fluid situations, excels at juggling multiple projects, and considers the team above all else.

Experience with storytelling is critical, mostly in the documentary/nonfiction variety, however, you may be asked to produce commercials and write scripts for animations (we wear a lot of hats).

Producer – Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

(*Please note that a strong driving record and valid drivers license is essential)

  • Collaborate with creative directors to fulfill the production plan, execute the vision, and advance the story.
  • Communicate independently with clients from time to time using professionalism and courtesy.
  • Attend production meetings to discuss the script, concept, or story and make any suggestions to help the production run smoothly, and offer feedback that advances the story.
  • Location scouting as needed to determine the locations suitable for filming.
  • General knowledge of camera equipment and audio gathering tools.
  • General understanding of lighting techniques
  • Work with a crew such as the Director of Photography and others to maintain the photographic quality and continuity of the production.
  • Media manage – Compiling and organizing large audio and video files after shoots.
  • Travel to and from shoots (may require driving) both domestically and internationally – must have a valid US passport.
  • Research and develop stories, characters, visuals, and productions for clients and ELM content
  • Conduct on-camera interviews
  • Occasionally, operate a camera if the situation requires it.
  • Compile scripts from interviews.
  • Write scripts with narration.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of productions from start to finish
  • Attend on-site and off-site client meetings as necessary
  • Facilitate the definition and creation of project scope, goals, and deliverables when needed.
  • Define production tasks and resource requirements
  • Assemble and coordinate teams and resources including creating and distributing call sheets to appropriate crew and clients.
  • Monitor project budgets
  • Plan and schedule project timelines
  • Track project milestones and deliverables
  • Provide direction and support to project team(s) as needed.
  • Provide direction and support to clients and stakeholders as needed.
  • Review content for quality assurance purposes and offer suggestions for improvement as needed.
  • Maintain situational awareness and report it up and down the chain of command for all stakeholders including ELM, Clients, Vendors, and on-camera subjects
  • Implement and manage project changes and scope additions
  • Facilitate project assessments on completed projects
  • Promote positive brand identity and awareness

Education and Experience

  • Qualification in producing or equivalent with 2-5 yrs experience
  • Knowledge of best storytelling practices
  • Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of video production
  • Knowledge of production techniques and tools
  • Direct work experience in film and media
  • Proven track record of excelling in fast-paced, dynamic environments
  • Proven experience in people management
  • Proven experience in strategic planning
  • Proven experience in risk and change management
